Monthly tips to improve the business and practice of members of The Society for the Advancement of Consulting, LLC - Issue #81: June, 2010

Here are some things to think about as you market in the coming months, with about half this calendar year remaining:
  1. Am I marketing myself in ways likely to capture the attention of my true, economic buyer, and not a middleman or the wrong buyer?

  2. Is it easy to reach me? Can you email me from my web site, or send a physical package to a street address?

  3. Are there low barriers to entry? Can you learn about me and from me with free downloads, articles, podcasts, teleconferences, and so forth?

  4. Am I spending most of my time on solid marketing efforts or rationalizing that my time on social media platforms is "marketing"?

  5. Am I doing my best to turn "events" into projects?

  6. Am I getting continually better talking to buyers as peers, pushing back, and challenging?

  7. Am I doing better financially—top line and bottom line—than this time last year? Are my prospects better for next year?

  8. Do I have a pipeline of inquiries, qualified prospects, proposals outstanding, and potential repeat business from existing clients extending out at least two quarters?

  9. Am I reading and attending events that significantly increase my skills so that I'm more valuable to my clients?

  10. Have I communicated with ALL of my contacts at least one and preferably twice in the first six months of this year?

  11. Am I positive about my future, and spending time with optimistic, successful people?

  12. Do I have three personal and professional priorities I am making progress on for the second half of the year?

If any of these are "no," then get them back on track. If they are all "yes," then accelerate their pace.
