Issue #16: January, 2005

For the Consultant's New Year:

  • Re-evaluate and better articulate your value proposition if you've been adding value, services, and/or products.
  • Have some trusted people view your web site for value, user-friendliness, aesthetics, and overall appeal.
  • Revamp your press kit to highlight your most recent triumphs, accolades, and testimonials; write two new white papers for it.
  • Plan to place at least 10% of your gross earnings into savings.
  • Find ways to reduce the labor intensity of your delivery.
  • Find one major alliance partner who can "springboard" you ahead in selected markets.
  • Plan all of you vacations in advance and schedule work around them. Increase time with your family and your interests.
  • Modernize the technology you rely on most often, whether it's the main computer, lap top, cell phone, or whatever.
  • Visit your financial advisors with the intent of exploring any better ways to conduct business and protect income.
  • Define three ways to improve your brand (or create one if you haven't yet done so).
  • Select three important self-development activities.
  • Call every past and present client simply to wish them well and stay in touch.
