Business Resolutions Recommendations From International Consulting Association

Resolutions are often more effective and easier to maintain for businesses than for personal lives because of the established routines and procedures within organizations. This is an observational finding from The Society for Advancement of Consulting, which polled its international member base on the subject.

"Three or four key business resolutions for improvement," notes SAC CEO Alan Weiss, Ph.D., "can easily be implemented and create an entire year of increased profit and growth, especially since you can involve others in the monitoring and discipline."

Here are some ideas provided by SAC member Gayle Lantz, President of Gayle Lantz, LLC an organization development firm in Birmingham, Alabama:

• Purge data and files to make room for new and better business activity.
• Get rid of or modify practices that don't serve the business well.
• Eliminate or avoid meetings that are unproductive and distract from results.
• Contact best customers and prospects informally to assess their needs and goals for the new year as they relate to your products or services. New business opportunities often start with simple conversations.

Adds Weiss: "If something is bothering you about an employee, a process, a customer, or a product, NOW is the time to change it. Don't plow through 2006 with the burdens of 2005."
