Prior to his business career he served as a Naval Officer and Aviator, and held numerous positions in administration, operations, training, and flight safety.

He is a highly sought-after speaker, author, and guest on television and radio. He has been quoted in numerous newspapers and magazines, including Fast Company, and written multiple articles on topics which include "The Role of Values and Leadership in Organizational Transformation," "Making Math Count at LAUSD," and "Why Can't We Be Friends: Challenging School Districts and Unions to Work Together."

He is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC®), and recently was selected to be Chair-Elect of the Board of Directors for the Institute of Management Consultants USA (IMC USA), the 2000-member professional organization and sole certifying body for management consultants in the United States.

He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Human and Organizational Systems from the Fielding Graduate University, and a B.S. in Physics from the U.S. Naval Academy. He is a member of faculty at the College of Business Administration at TUI University, as well as an adjunct at Central Michigan, Chapman, and Capella Universities, and teaches MBA and Ph.D. courses in Organization Development and Change; Leadership; Organization Theory and Design; Business Strategy and Implementation; and Management Consulting.
